Living Value Education in Praslin Secondary School

Living Value Education in Praslin Secondary School
As a result of revitalizing its Living Values Education Programme that has been in existence since 2004, Praslin Secondary School now has a vibrant Values committee (consisting of five members of staff and 3 students) spearheading the living values activities.  The committee has come up with various activities geared towards promoting a good behavior and better living habit, enhancing a peaceful learning and working environment. The activities include morning reflections and prayers for staff at the beginning of each week in the morning briefing.
Living Values Education is now institutionalized in Praslin Secondary School with a time tabled period every Monday morning from 8:00 to 8:35 a.m.  The Product of the Living Value lessons which may be in the form of posters, poems, reflections, songs, skits, role plays, acronyms and mind maps are put on display or performed in the Monthly Living Values Assemblies.
During the monthly Living Values assemblies conducted during the thirty five minutes (set aside for the Living values lessons), the whole school assembles to view and enjoy the various performances and reflections around values prepared by the different classes.  The Living Values committee also ensures that the Living Values Program is complemented with gospel songs played every lunch time.
In the past, the committee would choose a value from the twelve universal values and organize thirty-five minutes weekly lessons for a half of the school term.  Starting this year, the themes for the living values sessions are being drawn from the Seychelles National Youth Council’s list.  For instance, the school has been nurturing the values determination (which blends well with the school’s motto “Determination Prevails”) since the beginning of the term until Monday 10th March, when it was concluded and the value “Discipline” launched during the Living Values Assembly.  The value “Determination “set the tone for the commencement of the new academic year, whereby the school committee set goals and work towards achieving them with determination.
In cognizance of the fact that it cannot work alone towards this endeavor, the Living Values committee has doubled its efforts to partner with the local community (the various faiths, the health and social services, the police and community leaders to name a few)to reach out to and engage youths and families of Praslin. This will be effected by the newly established committee called the Praslin Youths Crossroad Forum under the auspices of the School; bearing the motto: An Informed Youth Is An Informed Nation.
